Personal World Map
The Personal World Map has been developed with the idea of giving users another perception of the world. Normally we measure distances between places in km (or miles) but in the Personal World Map these distances have been replaced by travel time and travel costs. These two factors can give a better indication of relative position between places than geographical distances.
More information about the Personal World Map can be found in the about section of the project.
The Personal World Map has been my final project for the study MA Media Design at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam and has been awarded with a Honorary Mention in the category Net Vision at Prix Ars Electronica 2006

Traject Visualizations
Thinking about travel time as a more effective indication of distance, the traject visualizations show the effects of highway congestion on travel time.
The project consists of three interactive animations. In the first animation distances on highway trajects have been replaced by travel times during all working days of one week. A second animation shows an overlap of travel times during Monday and Friday, while in the last one total travel times between the cities have been represented (during the mentioned period).
The data used have been provided by the client and consist of average travel times during 2005.
My activities consisted on concept development and realization.

Programming with Processing for kids
For the "Brede School" in Delft, I organized Processing workshops for 11/12 year old kids. By playing with Processing I tried to teach them some basic principles of programming.

Digital Objects
For the thematic project "Digital Objects" during the study MA Media Design at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam, I have been experimenting on different ways to apply elasticity to circles moving on a plane. The result is a set of interactive animations built on Actionscript.

Aerial Views and Human Conflicts
For the thematic project "Mapping Human Violence" (MA Media Design at the Piet Zwart Institute) I developed a prototype for an interface to view images of conflicts. The idea was to show the contrast between aerial views (representing power) and the impotence of human perspective. Access to the images database should both be possible through a world map and a timeline. The timeline has a double purpose: the upper part allows access to the conflicts by year while the under part allows access to the history of remote sensing applied to conflicts. In the prototype developed for this project only access through the world map is possible.

Breeding for Web Design
During the study MA Media Design at the Piet Zwart Institute, we created the concept, designed and developed a prototype for a collaborative website which aims approaching the definition of web design through its history.
General information about this thematic project is available at the Open History Timeline page.

Programming "Logo" drawings
These drawings are the result of experimenting with the possibilities of "Logo", a programming language for kids. Berkeley Logo has been used.
