Atlas Demonstrator
The Atlas Demonstrator is a prototype for the project "Atlas Leefomgeving" initiated by VROM (Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment - The Netherlands). This project aims making environmental information available on-line. Most of this information is geographical and is provided by municipalities, provinces and other environmental institutions using WMS techniques.
Taking the ideas developed during the project "Leefomgeving Demonstrator" (see below) as starting point, we were asked to extend the concept adding additional functionality and to design an interface for the Demonstrator. Our activities included information and interaction design.

Personal World Map
The Personal World Map has been developed with the idea of giving users another perception of the world. Normally we measure distances between places in km (or miles) but in the Personal World Map these distances have been replaced by travel time and travel costs. These two factors can give a better indication of relative position between places than geographical distances.
More information about the Personal World Map can be found in the about section of the project.
The Personal World Map has been my final project for the study MA Media Design at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam and has been awarded with a Honorary Mention in the category Net Vision at Prix Ars Electronica 2006

TU Delft Geoloket
Geoloket is an on-line service of the TU Delft Library. It offers the possibility to download different kind of maps of The Netherlands.
During the first phase of the project I was asked to design the user interface and advice about the integration of the Geoloket within the TU Delft Library website.

Leefomgeving Demonstrator
The "Leefomgeving Demonstrator" is part of the project 'Geoloketten' where different Dutch geographic information providers came together to find a way to make geoinformation accessible to the public.
We were asked to develop a concept and design an interface for a demonstrator following the requirements coming from previously performed user research.
Different sessions with the Geoloketten groep were arranged to discuss the possibilities and define the functionality of the Demonstrator.
The results of the project were later integrated in the "Atlas Demonstrator" (see above)

Consultancy for the New Towns database
After completion of the New Towns database development, new wishes arose for the expansion of the database.
I was asked to investigate the expansion possibilities in two different aspects: how can the graphical interface offer more detailed geographical information and which are the possibilities for an on-line documentation system.

Aerial Views and Human Conflicts
For the thematic project "Mapping Human Violence" (MA Media Design at the Piet Zwart Institute) I developed a prototype for an interface to view images of conflicts. The idea was to show the contrast between aerial views (representing power) and the impotence of human perspective. Access to the images database should both be possible through a world map and a timeline. The timeline has a double purpose: the upper part allows access to the conflicts by year while the under part allows access to the history of remote sensing applied to conflicts. In the prototype developed for this project only access through the world map is possible.
General information about this project can be found here.
